Avelino Corma, the internationally renowned scientist from Castellón, will deliver the closing keynote of IGNITE, the International Congress on Ceramics Innovation, organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Castellón, on 29 September. His participation will bring to a close two days of discussions focused on the major transformations shaping the future of the global ceramics industry.
Corma's participation reinforces the scientific dimension of a congress designed to connect research and knowledge with the real needs of businesses. His keynote will conclude a programme bringing together researchers, manufacturers, suppliers, industry executives, architects, designers and professionals from a wide range of international markets.
Born in Moncofa (Castellón), Avelino Corma is a Research Professor at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and co-founder of the Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ), a joint research centre of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and the CSIC. Widely regarded as one of Spain's most influential scientists, he has built an outstanding international career in the fields of catalysis, advanced materials and zeolites.
His research has contributed to the development of more efficient and sustainable chemical processes, with applications in areas such as emissions reduction, oil refining, the chemical industry, fuel production, biomass conversion and the manufacture of high value-added products.
Author of more than 1,400 scientific publications and numerous patents, many of his discoveries have been successfully transferred to industry. This ability to transform scientific research into practical industrial applications embodies one of the core principles of IGNITE: turning scientific knowledge into solutions that enhance companies' competitiveness, sustainability and capacity for innovation.
Throughout his career, Corma has received numerous national and international distinctions. Among the most prestigious is the Prince of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, which he received in 2014 in recognition of his contributions to the development of materials and processes with applications in fields of fundamental importance to industry and society.
About IGNITE
IGNITE will take place in Castellón on 28 and 29 September and will focus on five strategic themes: Real and Competitive Decarbonisation; In-depth Industrial Digitalisation; Advanced Ceramic Materials and New Applications. Design and Architecture; Integral Sustainability and Industrial Circularity; and Industrial Geopolitics and Markets.
The congress programme will feature 35 scientific presentations, five keynote lectures, five panel discussions, scientific poster presentations, and dedicated networking opportunities.
