Antonio Javier Sánchez Herencia is a Scientific Researcher at the Spanish Public Research Organisations (OPIs) at the Institute of Ceramics and Glass (ICV) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), where he joined in 2000. He holds a PhD in Chemical Sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid (1995). His main research interests focus on the colloidal processing of ceramic materials, the design of complex microstructures for harsh environments, biomaterials, photocatalysis, and the development of advanced Additive Manufacturing and 3D printing technologies through organic-inorganic hybrid materials. Throughout his career, he has published more than 120 papers in high-impact scientific journals, achieving an h-index of 29.


He has continuously led numerous national and international competitive research projects as Principal Investigator, as well as major industrial contracts with organisations such as the UK Atomic Energy Authority for nuclear fusion reactors and Orbital Paradigm S.L. for the development of aerospace thermal shields. He is also the co-inventor of six registered patents, three of which have been commercially licensed to international organisations, including The U.S. Navy, and to companies in the ceramics and coatings sectors. 


In addition, he is a co-founder of the CSIC technology spin-off COLFEED4PRINT S.R.L., which is dedicated to the production and commercialisation of functional filaments and optimised raw materials for 3D printing applications in the healthcare and energy sectors. 


On the academic side, he actively contributes to master's and doctoral programmes at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM), Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC), and the National University of Distance Education (UNED). He has supervised six PhD theses awarded the highest distinction, Cum Laude, and is currently supervising three additional doctoral projects. His research activities are complemented by research management responsibilities and his regular work as an evaluator for national and international funding agencies.
